Even FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automotive) knows that the Jeep Wrangler JK’s original design for its bonnet latches is not without flaws. Because the original latches are mainly made of rubber, this material can become brittle over time which then leads to the rubber stretching, or worse, developing splits and affect its structural integrity.
This can cause some serious problems. So it is not unheard of that Jeep Wrangler drivers had experienced not only bonnet flutter on the road but also the unfortunate event of their bonnets flipping up at the middle of the highway.
FCA has addressed this issue and sent off its R&D department to design much-improved bonnet latches for the Jeep Wrangler JL which has been released last year. Not only do the new JL style bonnet latches look a lot more modern, but they have also been completely redesigned from the ground up. There are no rubber parts anymore, which negates a huge point of failure. Instead, it’s an actual hooking mechanism that holds down your hood nice and tight. Steel and ABS plastic parts make sure that this will never fail throughout the lifetime of your Jeep.
This is an upgraded version to the standard JL Style latches (which we also sell in our store) that are lockable. These latches don't only hold on tight to your bonnet, they are also lockable with a key which helps to prevent theft and unwanted people to access your engine bay. The package comes with 2 sets of 2 keys each (4 keys in total).
The installation of these Jeep JL style bonnet latches should not take longer than 20 minutes and only requires only basic tools (a ratchet wrench, a 10mm and a 13mm socket).
Hint: Some Wrangler model years have shown to have slightly narrower pin holes for the bottom brackets. In this case, it's necessary to file down the two plastic pins on the bottom mounting bracket so they fit through the holes. Please account for extra 5-10 minutes for this customisation when installing these latches.
